The house beside the level crossing was once occupied by the Brett family, and I knew their son Derek. I believe the Bretts were the level crossing keepers.

My family lived in one of the railway cottages from about 1973 until 1978. My father died in the house. We were moved to another property as the cottages were to be demolished to make way for new houses. Mr & Mrs Passfield lived next door.

Does anyone know the name of the first Stationmaster of Wickford? I have a reference to a Mr Lacking being the man in 1899 but cannot find any evidence to support this.
